what mattress should i choose - coir, foam, latex, spring etc?
i have back pain. it is made worse after sleeping on the old Foam Mattress which has lost its original shape.
Hard bed is always better. Coir mattress would be the best for your back pain.
Having sex on Tempur-pedic mattresses???
I am going to be buying a Tempur-pedic mattress soon.
Developed by NASA, the visco elastic memory foam used in tempur-pedic mattresses provides a sleeping surface quite unlike any other mattress available.
But how does it affect sex?
Does it make it better or worse, easier or harder?
Everyone, especially lesbian couples, please share your experiences
they are cold and hard, kind of like my ex-wife.
but really they dont work that well, your knees and elbows sink into them.
i would reccomend the sleep number bed from slecet comfort. We have 2 of them one at home and then we bought one for our motorhome and they are great, even for sex!!
i want to get a memory foam mattress but i have some unanswered questions. anyone have answers?
-will the mattress absorb heat and make the mattress uncomfortably warm?
-is it worth the cost? (queen size mattress for $599)
-how long will the mattress last?
i just found out that the mattress is 999, not 599.
I have a high-quality, name brand mattress that is memory foam. I love it.
Although the salesman told us it might get too warm, that has not been a problem for me. I love to sleep under tons of blankets, and we recently bought an electric blanket, which I keep at a very low setting.
Our original bed was a water bed, reduced motion. I LOVED my waterbed, but it kind of had a disagreement with the 2 cats, and we had to keep patching it over and over. No fun when you wake up saturated in the morning.
The memory foam matress was a good buy. I still miss the bounce of the waterbed, but I am very happy with it. I was told that they last upward of 20 years. THere is no need to flip or rotate it.
TIP: get the waterproof mattress pad. I spilled pop, and the mattress was fine, thanks to the pad. Because we put our mattress in the waterbed frame, we did not need the one that encased the whole mattress - our mattress sits in the frame rather than on top of, and it would be a real pain to get the pad on and off for cleaning.
Short answer:
1. NO
2. Yes
3. not sure, but am thinking a long time.
Which is better-foam or spring mattress?
I am buying a new king size mattress. I dont know which direction I should go. It should be firm and help me with my lower back problems. Any suggestions?
First… I think you should check with your doctor to see if he/she is aware of any studies that point to one type or the other being better for back problems. Then go mattress shopping and test (to the extent you can in the store) a lot of them till you find "the one". Take several days/weeks if you need to…
Honestly you couldn't pay me to sleep on a Foam Mattress much less spend $1000+ on one! I've slept on them in hotels…. and for me…initially when you lay down they feel great! But then… as you sleep they kind of envelope you and it's hard to turn over. And… they are HOT!!! They seem to absorb body heat and radiate it back at you. But that's my experience. The point is everyone has a different experience. If memory serves
I seem to remember reading about a hybrid type mattress that was basically a spring but was topped with a layer of foam.
Consumer Reports has a lot of good information on mattresses (link is provided below). In addition to ratings there is a weath of other info. I also included a link to a hot tub forum where there was a lengthy discussion on mattresses. Really its more of an anecdotal discussion but you might pick up a few brands you want try. And I believe this thread referenced a mattess forum that you might want to check out. Keep in mind some of the manufacturers have a xx day satisfaction guarantee.
Good luck!
ideas on how to reuse old foam mattress?
We are getting a new mattress and I would like ideas on ways to reuse our old 3 piece Foam Mattress. I hate to just throw it away, so any ideas on crafts, etc would be appreciated.
You can cut it up, cover with material and use it for bench or chair cushions. Can be used indoor or outdoor with right fabric. If you're really crafty, you can make a headboard by attaching to plywood with a staplegun and cover with material, get some brass tacks, tufting, etc and have fun. Then hang on wall. You can do the same in smaller size for a picture frame.
What is the best way to cut a latex mattress?
I have a queen sized sheet of latex foam (talalay process, I think) and want to cut it to full size. What is the best way to do this and get the most clean cut?
Get an electric, serrated, meat carving knife. They are super cheesy but they cut through foam like nothing else.
Which mattress topper should I get?
I've done some research and I know what I like, but it has come down to these two (I looked at some of the Overstock toppers, but I felt these two will match well for their price as well):
2.0" Visco2 Ventilated Mattress Enhancer:
http://www.amazon.com/Sleep-Studio-Ventilated-Mattress-Enhancer/dp/B000LQB246/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=bedbath&qid=1244072551&sr=1-4
or
Sleep Better 2-Inch Visco Elastic Memory Foam Mattress Topper
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000A8BU0G/ref=pop
I chose the 2-inch because I like firm beds, so I don't think the 3-inches would help too much and as far as density goes, I feel like anything over 2 lbs/cubic ft is fine. Any suggestions?
Thanks
Here are two other mattress toppers my friend suggested:
Visco Memory Foam 2.5 in Mattress Topper
http://www.smartbargains.com/go.sb?pagename=prod&fcloc=product&deptid=3&catid=1400&prodid=3030328224
Serta Rejuvenator 4-inch Mattress Topper
http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Serta-Rejuvenator-4-inch-Mattress-Topper/3298223/product.html?sec_iid=33969
Are they worth anything I should look into?
They both look like good toppers and the prices are great (and free shipping). If you're sure 2 inches are comfortable for you, it would make no sense to spend a lot more money for 3 inches.
Just a thought, if you're one of those people who can't sleep if it's too hot or if you sweat a lot, the ventilated topper would probably be better, although more expensive. However, if not, and if you have AC, why spend the extra $50?
I sleep on a full 10 inch memory foam bed and don't think I could ever go back to sleeping on a conventional mattress.
Don't forget to buy a mattress pad to protect your new topper!
Edit: I looked at the 2 you added and still think the first 2 options are the best value.
Moving with a memory foam mattress.?
I am moving from TX to NY. I have a queen size memory foam mattress. Can I somehow roll this or fold this up to make more room? Will it go back to the correct position, once I lay it out? Or can I ruin the mattress this way?
You can definitely roll or fold a memory Foam Mattress and it will resume it’s shape when unfolded. Just make sure you wrap it in something to protect it from getting dirty.
I have a king size tempur pedic mattress and want to cut it into two twins. Any ideas if that would work?
The mattress is basically foam so I dont see why I couldnt simply cut it in half. Just looking for suggestions or anything I might not have thought of
wouldn't it be easier to make him sleep on the couch?
What kind of railings work better for a memory foam mattress, metal railings or a platform bed?
I'm buying a new memory Foam Mattress for my new apartment, but I don't know which railings I should get. I love the look of a platform bed but metal railings are cheaper. Which works best for the mattress?
go with the platform. the rails won't support the memory mattress well enough; it's too heavy and the center will sag over time.
