Have a Home of the Future Today

The boom domestic interior design which has taken place over the last ten years has seen the major media and electrical companies recognize the home as sector in the market that is really worth investing in. People have spent so much on there homes that they no longer want to have to go the cinema for the latest picture technology, nor do they want to go to a packed out night club to hear their favourite music played by the newest audio equipment, and rightly so. Home technology today is big business and if you are prepared to invest a little can really make your home a much more convenient and, perhaps more importantly, a much more exciting place to be.

Home cinema is probably the most common technological advancement in our homes today. Comprising of a flat screen television which come in sizes that go all the way up to a massive 50 inches and a speaker system which provides exhilarating surround sound, they really do provide cinematic quality viewing. So good are they that many people are designating whole rooms to the sole purpose of movie watching. If this is something you yourself are thinking of, an even more exciting development you might want consider is a projector. Those who are getting visions of science lessons in your school days, projectors have vastly improved in quality and capability since then. Now able to be connected to a digital set top box they can display regular television. The better ones can be hooked up to the latest high definition DVD players for picture perfect movie enjoyment. The benefit of a projector is that they are available in much bigger sizes than are currently possible with a television and, when not in use they can they rolled out of sight.

Improved technology can also improve the quality of our nights sleep. A Tempora mattress is made from technology designed by the NASA space programme. Built from memory foam, they mould perfectly to the shape of your body resulting in a deeper state of relaxation. Memory foam mattresses are also particularly effective for those with back problems as they keep the head correctly aligned with the body for better sleeping posture. There can be no better end to a day than collapsing onto a king size, four poster bed complete with memory Foam Mattress covered in Egyptian cotton sheets, a freshly plumped up duvet, all topped off with a luxuriously heavy throw.

Sticking with comfort, but travelling forward a few hours, waking up to the gloriously easy feeling of under-floor heating is something that has to be experienced in order to be truly appreciated. The latest and last word on home heating, under-floor heating is actually much more efficient that regular heating and will free up your walls from the unsightly pipes and radiators that have done our homes a disservice for far too long.

I’ll leave you with a piece of home technology that is still in its novelty stages but is something I feel will have a massive impact on our homes in years to come. Digital picture frames currently offer the opportunity to display snaps of your loved ones taken on your mobile phone or digital camera. They connect to your P.C. where you simply choose from your picture library which shot you would like to upload. The signs are that these small items will eventually grow to the point where they act almost like windows to any view in the world. Soon live scenes from anywhere you like will be able to be beamed straight to your “second window” meaning you will soon be drinking your morning coffee looking over Paris an the Eiffel Tower- better invest in some café style curtains!

Camping Beds to Help Keep Warm

Do you know how important camping beds are when you camp? The right choice is going to help you to stay warm all night long and help to make your camping trip more enjoyable overall.

There are different types of beds available. We’ve all seen the ones from Wal-Mart that could double as a spare bed for when you have guests at you house. The other end of the scale of course is the sleeping bag.

For me those big bulky beds from Wal-Mart just are not the way to go. Sure they’re probably very comfortable but to lug something that size around on any camping trip I would go on is just far too much work. I like to go smaller than that. They’re a good choice when you’re car camping and don’t have to be mobile but if you’re hiking or paddling then those ones are just too large.

Folding cots are a better choice than an actual folding bed but even they can be too large in my opinion. They’re certainly more comfortable than sleeping on the rocks but defintely at the cost of taking up space in your backpack and by adding weight to your load.

My bed of choice is the self inflating mattress and for a number of reasons. First of all they’re light and so they only add a marginal amount of weight to your pack. Secondly, they can be lashed to the outside of your pack and will stay compressed until you are finally ready to open it up and inflate it. Last but certainly not least, they offer excellent insulation value when you’re on the trail.

You obviously can choose whatever camping bed you like but here is the single most important thing to consider when buying one. That is the insulation factor. The big beds will offer insulation because their mattresses are made from some sort of foam but not all foams are created equal. Some foams insulate very well and other cheaper ones simply do not. You cannot rely on a sleeping bag to keep you warm all night when you’re sleeping on the ground. It simply won’t. Especially on cooler nights and early or late in the season. A sleeping bag needs to be used in conjunction with a good sleeping pad to keep you warm and that will allow you to be comfortable.

Some folks will choose to use an air mattress but they’re not really the best choice either. They do get you of the ground but often your heavier mid section will still touch the ground unless the mattress is overfilled, in which case it’s no longer comfortable. Besides all of that they make a lot of noise while you toss and turn and you just don’t sleep as well as a result.

A good self inflating sleeping pad will be both warm and comfortable and is also very rugged so you’ll be able to use it on many trips to come. They can be somewhat expensive but you don’t need to buy the most expensive one. There’s always one available that is mid priced and excellent quality. I have bought several and know from experience that the best ones are made by Thermarest. There are others that are similar in construction and quality to the Thermarest mattresses but be sure to look for one where the foam core is physically attached to the out lining. This keeps the lining from spinning around on itself when you move around on it.

There are a few options for you here. It really depends on the type of camping your doing. RV camping or camping out of your car offers more room for bigger items like the Wal-Mart camp bed where backpacking and paddling pretty much demand the self inflating air mattress. The important thing is that you get off the ground. That’s the best way to stay warm and comfortable.

New mattress is killing me (Sealy Springfree)?

I used to have an IKEA Sultan mattress and after 3.5 years of use it started to sag in the middle. I put a lot of time and effort in researching a new mattress and finally decided on Sealy Springfree latex (firm). When I tried it in the store it seemed like a perfect mattress and getting it at a deep discount sealed the deal for me. I got a floor model for a $1000, but now I’m regretting it since I can’t take it back. After the first two days of sleeping on it, my knees and hips are killing me. I have numbness in my right leg when I lay on it, and sometimes it even feels like it’s putting pressure on my ribcage, making hard to breathe. I rarely ever wake up at night, but for the last two days my sleep has been really restless. It also hurts when I sit during the day (hip, knee). I even tried it with Costco’s memory foam topper, but it’s the same.
Is this normal? I read that it takes time to adjust to the new mattress, but I don’t know how much I can take it. What should I do? HELP!

There are customers of so called mattress and box spring outlets that have requested floor model purchase and the customers never received the model – it wound up stored.
The name also indicates it is not a Sealy, but a "come-on."
Any legal mattress and box spring sales allows that in store test does not give accurate for how any are matched to a sleep platform. If it is a bona-fide retail, and a switch was made by unqualified employe, then going to the owner is your only recourse, unless you have an acqaintance that will give ‘em hell and demand return. Then you may have to pay a 5% restock, but the $50 dollars will be worth it. They should not charge a second delivery fee, nor subtract the fee from a return payment check.

Is it normal for a memory foam mattress to feel damp after it is unwrapped?

Just got a memory Foam Mattress and it’s taking ages to puff up to size and it feels damp…is this normal?

Memory foam does feel damp doesn’t it? I recently tried a lot in the bed showrooms and they all felt like that. I think it’s because of the texture of the foam and the fact that it’s usually a cold surface, so feels damp. If you have any questions, phone your bed specialist or the mattress provider and ask them if it’s usual – I imagine it’s a common issue and I bet they have some good advice/reasons. Some info below…
:-)

what is the best mattress to have?

individual pocket sprung with latex top
memory foam
please state where you got your information from

Best in what way?

If you are looking for durability latex is better than memory foam. Plus there are to many variables here. Density, Ild, Thickness etc.

Comfort is suggestive to the buyer. Trust that little voice in your head telling you which one feels better and supports you best.

Price?

What are you looking for out of a mattress? Don’t let a bunch of people pick a mattress for you unless you would let them buy clothes for you without knowing anything about you. I am pretty sure you will disappointed with your purchase.

What kind of pillows are best to use if I have a memory foam mattress?

We just got a memory Foam Mattress and have found that our regular pillows don’t feel right or support well along with the memory foam.

I have a memory foam mattress and use pillows filled with soy bean husks. They’re firm enough to support my head but I can punch them into any shape that suits me. Only place I could find them was at www.hsn.com, and they’re called sobekawa pillows, or something like that.
