What kind of bed frame is recommended for a memory foam mattress?

We bought a memory Foam Mattress and box springs. The box springs kept breaking, the snap just advice. It has been replaced 5 times and improved box spring so I can not blame the MFG! I asked if we need a special kind of mattress, ours is just a metal crossbar, and was told it would be good. Please help! This is embarrassing!

I’m thinking a platform bed would be good, something without slats but with a solid bottom.

Cpap- the Best Solution for Treating Sleep Deprivation

Millions of people across the world are suffering from Sleep disorder and Sleep deprivation. Sleep deprivation is the condition in which patient cannot experience a healthy sleep. Sleep disorders are considered to be one of the most severe disorders as they lead to many other ailments related to sleep disorder.

Sleep Deprivation includes a host of symptoms such as headache, lack of concentration, mood swings, sleep apnea, irritability, drowsiness and snoring. Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) and memory Foam Mattress are the most effective treatments for treating the symptoms of sleep deprivation.

Nowadays CPAP is considered to be the best solution for the treatment of sleep apnea. Continuous Positive Airway Pressure is used for treating sleep deprivation mainly caused by the breathing problems of sleep apnea. While sleeping, the breathing problem is caused by obstructions of air passage. CPAP is based and designed in such a manner to provide essential compressed air with adequate air pressure inducing normal respiration.

In CPAP treatment, there is a mechanical device that is the main part to control the air pressure. CPAP uses a special machine to provide air pressure to the patient by a special mask. The air pressure is usually set up by the sleep technician. Sleep technician programs the particular air supply, called titrated pressure value in the machine that delivers air every night.

The correct air pressure removes the incidents of apnea or snoring. While lying on the bed, the mask is put on the face and air path is directed straight into the nostrils. With the continuous flow of air pressure, one is able to sleep well.

In automatic CPAP machines, the sleep technician has to just choose the value of the recommended pressure already recorded in it. Mostly, in some CPAP machines, some models are humidifiers integrated to avoid the dryness of the compressed air.

Along with CPAP, memory foam mattress is also considered as a successful treatment for treating sleep deprivation. Sleep disorders such as Sleep apnea and sleep deprivation can cause serious implications. In some cases if not treated properly can cause death. CPAP and memory foam mattress are effective ways in treating sleep apnea or snoring.

Pressure Relieving Mobility Aids

For those people who spend a lot of time in bed, in a powerchair or wheelchair, or a riser recliner chair, the risk of pressure sores can be high. With the right pressure relieving mobility products and remembering to change positions regularly, the risk of pressure sores can be greatly reduced.

Bed sores are areas of skin that are damaged, and usually affect the bony areas of the body, such as heels, hips, elbows and head. Pressure sores are serious, and can damage the fatty tissue underneath the skin. Untreated, they can lead to infection and blood poisoning, and in severe cases, they can even be life threatening.

Pressure sores and ulcers, or decubitus, are caused a person staying in the same position without moving; shearing, which is when the skin drags when slipping or sliding in bed and friction from poor lifting, moving and handling techniques. Those susceptible to bed sores include those with reduced mobility, those suffering from an acute illness, the immobile, the elderly, the very young, and the malnourished. The patient can also be affected by moisture and any medication that they may be taking. For healthcare professionals as well as the individual, pressure relief is a very important consideration in the rehabilitation process.

There are several different types of mobility aids which can help reduce the risk of pressure sores. Here is a list of six types of pressure relieving mobility products suitable for home use or use in a care giving environment.

1.Constant Low Pressure devices such as mattresses and overlays spread the body weight over a larger area. A pressure relieving mattress has a supportive, or “memory foam” base, which means that no additional mattress topper is needed. Some types of pressure relieving mattress are flexible enough to be suitable for electric adjustable mobility beds. Mattress toppers, as the name suggests, sit on top of a traditional mattress, and mould to the shape of the body, and so provide additional comfort. Pressure relieving bed pads have sewn in sections to prevent the material moving, and so reduce friction. These bed pads are normally for temporary rather than long term usage. Foam and fibre mattress overlays are used with a mattress, and allow the air to circulate. This reduces the build up of moisture which can lead to pressure sores. The various types of mattresses, toppers and overlays are available for different situations. For example, some are more suited for medical use than others.

2.Alternating Pressure devices mechanically vary the pressure beneath the patient, and may not be suitable for those with fractures. These types of mobility devices are often programmable so that the patient gets the correct amount of support. These pressure relieving systems are usually virtually noise and vibration free. Some models work on the patient’s BMI (Body Mass Index), and depending on the model, the control unit can be used with several mattresses to save on costs and storage.

3.Low Air Loss pressure relieving devices work by supporting the patient on air filled sacks inflated at a constant pressure, through which air can pass. Air fluidised devices are designed for high-risk individuals who are not able to tolerate pressure. The airflow is warmed through sand-like grains or beads which are in an air-permeable fabric to create a dry flotation system.

4.Pressure relieving mobility devices are available for bony areas of the body such as the heels, hips, elbows and the head which are also at risk of pressure sores as the skin is thinner and so is damaged more easily. These types of mobility aids are commonly used in hospitals and nursing homes as well as domestically. Depending on the type of protector, medication can be applied to the protector.

5.For people who sit in the same position all day, using a proper pressure relieving cushion can drastically reduce the risk of pressure sores. If you use a riser recliner chair, you can adjust the position of the chair to change the position and spread the pressure. If a traditional type of chair is used, a dedicated chair cushion can help. Common types of cushion include ring cushions which are round and inflatable, and waffle cushions which can be inflatable and have ventilation holes which allow good air circulation.

6.Wheelchair and powerchair cushions are very important to reduce the risk of pressure sores and should not be overlooked when purchasing a wheelchair or powerchair. Purchasing the right size of cushion for the chair is vital in order that the cushion can be effective.

Using the correct pressure relieving mobility products is important and has measurable health benefits; however the most important point to remember is that changing positions regularly is the best way of preventing and treating pressure sores.

What kind of bed frame is recommended for a memory foam mattress?

We bought a memory Foam Mattress and box springs about 6 months ago. The box springs keep breaking, the boards just snap. It’s been replaced 5 times, and upgraded the box springs so I can’t blame it on the mfg ! I have asked if we need some kind of special bedframe, ours is just metal with a cross bar, and was told it should be fine. Please help! This is getting embarassing!

The boards can only break if it is a cheaply built foundation or the steel frame underneathe the foundation is lacking center support. Check out Flobeds they make some really heavy duty foundations.

Adjustable Beds and Tempur-pedic Mattress- to Reduce Your Back Pain

When you are choosing your mattress, you are choosing your most used and important piece of furniture in your home. If you sleep the average eight hours a day, and expect to keep your mattress for at least ten years, you will have spent 29,200 hours on this piece of equipment! It will impact your mood, comfort, your health, and your sense of well being for as long as you sleep on it. So while this often overlooked purchase may seem insignificant initially, it is far from it.

There are many more options today when choosing a mattress than there used to be. Mattresses are made to cater to the individual, and there are mattresses that are big enough for two people that have separate components, making it possible for each individual to set mattress variables to suit their own individual comfort or body type. Such mattresses mean partners no longer have to compromise a good night’s sleep.

Adjustable beds are mechanical marvels of design and comfort which are perfectly adapted to improve many different symptoms associated with varied conditions that lead to back pain and more. If you suffer from lower back pain, your condition may be the result of many causes, of which the sufferer often has no how they got in the first place.

Adjustable mattresses are now being designed with flexibility at both ends, so that both the top and bottom of the mattress can be adjusted to rise or lie down according to the sleeper’s comfort levels. This is very useful if you are a person who likes to watch television or read a bit before falling asleep at night.

The causes associated with back pain include strains, sprains, ligament sprains, joint problems, over-extension, work-related pains, slipped disks, and more. Actual physical disability from instances such as work related accidents are another well-known cause of back pain. In all these instances, an adjustable bed can help soothe your sore aching back.

There are other tips from doctors on relieving back pain which can be utilized in combination with an adjustable bed. Heating pads are recommended to relax painful muscle spasms and medications such as Motrin, Aleve, Aspirin and Tylenol also reduce pain and swelling. Once again, an adjustable bed can help you relieve and maybe even prevent these same pains!

Some adjustable beds, specifically electric adjustable beds, come equipped with soothing heating units built in. Some electric adjustable beds even have a vibrating feature to massage away daily stress, boost circulation and ease your sore back. As far as any relief you may get from taking medications, the adjustable bed manufacturers haven’t come up with anything to replace them yet.

Adjustable beds come in a huge wide variety of different shapes and sizes, models and types to fit most any budget. There are basic, hand operated adjustable beds, basic electric adjustable beds that elevate and configure themselves at the push of a button on a remote control unit, to the top of the line adjustable bed with all the bells and whistles such as wireless remotes, heat, massage, removable legs and more.

Many of people’s problems in today’s society result from the lack of sleep, so be sure to invest in a good bed and maybe a memory foam mattress. The calm and steady sleep we need depends primarily upon the quality of the mattress we use in our beds. The better suited the mattress is for your body, the better you will sleep.

A quality memory foam mattress like Tempurpedic can help you to sleep by reducing the pressure points on your body which means less tossing and turning. There are less expensive alternatives, you can use an alternate brand or even a high density polyurethane foam mattress topper, which is designed to relieve pressure points in the same way that a memory Foam Mattress does as long as it is 3 or more inches thick. The memory foam mattress pad is an inexpensive way to improve the sleeping surface of your bed as long as the belying mattress is in good condition.

If you are going to buy a memory foam mattress, it is important that you select one that has sufficient memory foam on the top layer. At least 3” in the memory foam layer is preferable for comfort and pressure point relief. If you find your mattress is too firm, memory foam pads don’t cost very much when compared to the cost of an actual mattress set. The comfort the memory foam mattresses provide will make you feel like you are sleeping on a cloud.

The Tempurpedic foam mattress has the capability to return to its original shape and can provide better comfort and orthopedic support than an innerspring mattress. As a dense memory foam mattress reacts with body heat, it will contour to the body shape within seconds. The Tempur Pedic mattress types are suitable for all weights so you don’t have to buy a firmer mattress for someone heavy and a softer mattress for someone who is lighter.

The Advantages of Memory Foam Mattress and Mattresses

The memory foam mattress was only launched in the market in the early 1990’s which makes it a fairly new material in terms of the bedding industry. It is capable to support each area of your body evenly so that your spine stays in a neutral position the throughout the night. This mattress material can minimize pressure points which in return helps to reduce tossing and turning while sleeping, the main reason people report loss of sleep.

Memory foam mattresses are made of a blend of natural and synthetic materials which are designed to be allergy free and hypoallergenic, as well as dust mite resistant. This makes memory foam a natural choice for allergy sufferers and the health conscious alike. It is naturally inhospitable to dust mites, as they prefer open, damp spaces with natural materials on which they may feed. Memory foam does not have open spaces for the mites to live in, does not retain heat moisture, and is not composed of cotton, all of which deter and prevent dust mites from residing beneath you. When you compare these statistics to an innerspring mattress, which has large open spaces, retains heat and moisture, and is often composed of cotton pillow-top which retains skin cells (dust mite’s favorite food), than it almost makes the memory foam beds seem like a no-brainer!

You do not have to rotate or flip a memory foam mattress because it does not use springs, but is supported by foam which will remain resilient for years. Based on several studies, people who have use memory foam mattress sleep soundly and better than those who use the normal coil bed. Because of this reason, thousands of doctors and other specialists have suggested to patients to use it to avoid bad sleep which is often linked to disorders such as narcolepsy, obesity, poor concentration, increased stress, insomnia and irritability.

All memory foam mattresses are not the same. They vary in density, thickness and quality. There are less expensive alternatives, you can use a high density polyurethane foam mattress topper, which is designed to relieve pressure points in the same way that a memory Foam Mattress does. If you are going to buy a memory foam mattress, it is significant that you select one that has sufficient memory foam on the top layer, typically 3-6 inches is good. The memory foam mattress pad or topper is a reasonably priced way to improve the sleeping exterior of your bed, provided it is in decent condition. Memory foam pads don’t cost very much when compared to the cost of an actual mattress set. But the comfort they provide, will make you feel like you are sleeping on a cloud and can come close to simulating the feel of an actual memory foam bed.

One great advantages of a memory foam mattress is its sensitivity to weight. For someone of lighter weight and small stature, 3” of memory foam on the mattress should be sufficient where as a larger individual may need up to 6” of memory foam for proper support and contouring. Memory foam is designed to become softer with heat, and heavier areas like hips and shoulders exude more heat allowing them to sink further in therefore keeping the spine aligned and the lower back supported.

The Tempurpedic foam mattress has the ability to return to its original shape and can provide better comfort and orthopedic support. As a dense memory foam mattress reacts with body heat, it will consequently, within seconds, form around the shape of the body. The Tempur Pedic is suitable for all weights so you don’t have to buy a firmer mattress for someone heavy and a softer mattress for someone who is lighter, but larger persons may be more comfortable with a thicker layer of memory foam on the mattress.

Everyone wishes to find the perfect mattress for the best night’s sleep, but there is not any “one-size fits all option”. There are various types of mattresses available in the market including coil mattresses, Latex Foam Mattresses, memory foam mattresses, air mattresses and traditional mattresses. The internet is probably your most valuable tool when it comes to getting the most mattress for your dollar.

There are various mattresses companies offers variety of mattresses depends on the materials. Perhaps the best approach would be to go to local stores to try out the different types and styles of beds, and then use the internet and ads to find the best deal on what you want.

Be sure to know the size of your bed or what size you want and if you have a platform style bed or need a foundation, as these conditions may affect availability and pricing. Measure your mattress from head to toe and side to side and take this with you.

Memory foam mattresses are the latest type of mattress launched in the market. Memory foam mattresses are manufactured by using specially designed foam, which has unique properties. This memory foam is specially created to ease the body while sleeping. Memory foam mattresses are truly a unique material and quickly becoming a consumer favorite. There are number of brands available in market so take some time and research your options before you buy, as the most recognized brand may not be the best solution.
