What is the Best Features in Memory Foam Mattress and Mattresses to Buy?

The original memory foam mattress was by Tempur-Pedic and it still remains the market leader. At first only one version was made but now the company makes several, each offering different covers, memory foam thicknesses, base foam thickness, etc. Some luxury models even utilize and ultra high density Tempur HD foam and materials such as suede and silk.

So what is a good memory foam mattress made of? Well they key factors that a mattress can be judged by are density, materials, comfort preference, and warranty.

Foam density means how much 1 cubic foot of foam weighs. A quality piece of memory foam that is 1 foot high by 1 foot wide and 1 foot in depth will weigh at least 5 lbs. All quality mattresses will have a density of 5 lbs or more per cubic foot. All memory foam mattresses contain a layer of only 2-6 inches of actual memory foam however, so this does not mean that the mattress will weigh 5lbs per foot. Density is probably the most telling feature in terms of quality and longevity and really has nothing to do with the firmness of the mattress.

Many households are looking for that one foam mattress memory brand that can really make a difference in their quality of sleep. But since personal preferences and budgets vary so widely, no one brand or mattress will suit everyone. High quality memory foam beds can be purchased for much less than Tempurpedic mattresses and lower quality beds can be purchased for roughly the same price as traditional mattresses. As with most purchases, you get what you pay for. Typically the more expensive brands will provide a higher quality, longer lasting product with a better warranty.

A quality foam memory mattress must possess the heat-sensitive, visco-elastic material which molds itself to every angle and curve of your body for the true memory foam experience. When you sleep on it, it gives your neck, back, shoulders and feet proper support. This is vital as your entire musculoskeletal architecture is supported in the correct anatomical position. When you test the mattresses, lie down in your normal sleep position and get comfortable for 5-10 minutes. You should feel the gradual sinking and contouring over the first few minutes. When you sleep on the memory Foam Mattress, notice to see if the pressure is evenly distributed across the entire contact area between your body and the mattress. For quality memory foam beds, there will be a very noticeable difference from a typical pillow-top, and the material should come back up gradually after you rise.

If you share a bed with someone, their comfort needs to be considered as well as your own. If you’re looking for a mattress for your single bed, you only need to think of your own comfort and support.

Once you’ve both decided on a day and time to look at mattresses, you need to determine what features you need. There are three basic steps you need to follow:

• Size - Many couples have a standard double or queen bed, however, the width in these beds for two people to sleep comfortably may feel limited depending on size and space preferences. If your room can accommodate it, most couples should opt for at least a queen or even a king size bed. For adjustable beds, a king (which will most likely be split) is the most recommended size for couples. A split king is essentially two twin long beds that offer a comfortable amount of personal space for the average person.

• Support - This is one of the most important factors in selecting the right mattress. There is a good chance that you and your partner require different support from a mattress, for example, one of you may be much taller or heavier than the other so it could be a good idea to look at construction types that offer support for individuals. There is the possibility that your ideas differ largely in how a mattress should be or which materials feel the best. You may wish to consider a split or customizable type mattress which can be made with two separate materials and firmnesses, but still put into one mattress for a more desirable look.
• Cost - The cost of mattresses can differ greatly, but generally, it is recommended to get the best quality mattress your budget supports, as they will typically last a long time. Although, just because you spend a lot of money on a mattress does not mean it will be the right one for you, or your partner. Put aside advertising gimmicks and promotions and look for a mattress that provides the adequate comfort and support you both require. Then when you’re ready to select one, use the internet and local ads to find the best deal.

Do you own a Foamex and/or Aerus Mattress?

So I’m having a hard time find any info or reviews on the mattress company Foamex and/or Aerus. From what I can see they are a company based in States and the mattresses are sold in Sam’s Club stores.

Does anybody own a Aerus mattress? What are your thoughts?

Do you have back problems? Has it helped at all?

I’m thinking of buying the Aerus Natural Ultra-Luxe 12” King Size Memory Foam

All Memory foam is not created equal. There are many things to consider.
Price
Quality
ILD and IFD http://www.stlbeds.com/articles/2009/04/13/what-is-ifd-or-initial-force-deflection/
Density
Chemical Off Gassing
Weather or not the foam will sleep hop.
Foams found in dept. stores and big box stores at this time don’t provide much of this information and they are cheaply priced for a reason. Just to put it into perspective an OK quality memory Foam Mattress in 10" thickness should cost you at least a 1000.00.
Even if you do not intend on buying a tempurpedic go to their store and get an education about memory foam they are the best and what all is measured up too. Do your homework. An educated consumer is a happy consumer.

I am thinking of getting a new king sized mattress. Any tips on choosing the best ones?

I have heard of memory Foam Mattresses, latex mattresses, air beds etc etc. Seems to be a lot to choose from!

My wife and I went to a couple sleep stores and tried out their mattresses. We then went online and bought a comparable model and saved a lot of money. We bought ours from http://www.mattresshero.com they carry memory foam and latex units. They gave us free shipping and a 90 day sleep trial with no pressure to buy.

What any of you buy a hamburger bed A fair price would probably be close to $2000?

The Origin Story
You know that ol’ dinner party question:
If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?
My answer is always—hamburgers.
mm mm mmm
I wouldn’t say that I’m obsessed… though I did celebrate hamburger roadtrip ‘03 (I ate hamburgers in 8 central US states) and have a buffet club code name of Patty Melt…

I have a general devotion to food and movies… especially sweets.

For awhile now I have been making sweet treats and then I saw an amazing video Hamburger: The Motion Picture (must own soon!) and their dorm room beds WERE hamburgers.
I had to make the transition into making treats things!
and I couldn’t shake the idea of a Hamburger Bed!

I bought a round mattress from the 70’s and made everything else myself…
(with the exception of pickle chip pillows I received from a wonderful friend).

It is 8′ in diameter (I love saying my bed has a diameter)
It stands about 3′ tall.

It is the most comfortable bed I have ever owned… ever

Frequently Asked Questions
Who made the hamburger bed?
Kayla Kromer of Austin, Texas.

Is the bed for sale? If so how much does it cost? If not, are there any plans and how much do you think it would cost?
It’s not something people really want… they say they do. If someone did, they would find me for real.

A fair price would probably be close to $2000… It took some time and stuff to put it together. I would much rather help someone make a new dream.

I didn’t make it to sell anything, or be a "viral marketing strategy" as it’s been accused of.
It is fun for pure fun’s sake—that’s why people love it.

What do I need to make my own hamburger bed?
•1 circular bed and "box" frame (mine is way bigger than it looks and took some stealthy moves to get it in my house)
•2 tones of light brown fabric
•dark brown king fitted sheet
•memory foam
•king sized yellow and green sheets
•30 pillows
•a couple of zippers
•pantyhose (for the sesame seeds)
sew together
LOVE!

Isn’t this technically a cheeseburger bed?
“All cheeseburgers are also hamburgers; not all hamburgers are cheeseburgers.” —David Roland Strong

Actually, if you have some carpentry skills, you could use a regular box spring and mattress. Build two half-circle shaped dresser drawers that fit on either side of the bed and are the of equal height as the bed. You can use these to store all of the condiments and napkins in. Make some pajamas that look like bacon.

I have a mattress question?

a king size Tempurpedic mattress is $2500. I saw a memory Foam Mattress from costco called Novafoam pure comfort for $800. The costco mattress is thick and it didn’t look like it had or neeed a box spring. Is the costco one too good to be true or is it a good deal compared to the real tempurpedic?

Tempur Pedic is the standard by which all other memory foam mattresses are measured. Is it the best and does it cost the most yes. Although a great mattress for 800.00 the Costco mattress is a great value but is by no means a Tempurpedic. In additon you may want to check out http://www.whatsthebest-mattress.com/ there is much help from people who have purchased both there.

Have a Home of the Future Today

The boom domestic interior design which has taken place over the last ten years has seen the major media and electrical companies recognize the home as sector in the market that is really worth investing in. People have spent so much on there homes that they no longer want to have to go the cinema for the latest picture technology, nor do they want to go to a packed out night club to hear their favourite music played by the newest audio equipment, and rightly so. Home technology today is big business and if you are prepared to invest a little can really make your home a much more convenient and, perhaps more importantly, a much more exciting place to be.

Home cinema is probably the most common technological advancement in our homes today. Comprising of a flat screen television which come in sizes that go all the way up to a massive 50 inches and a speaker system which provides exhilarating surround sound, they really do provide cinematic quality viewing. So good are they that many people are designating whole rooms to the sole purpose of movie watching. If this is something you yourself are thinking of, an even more exciting development you might want consider is a projector. Those who are getting visions of science lessons in your school days, projectors have vastly improved in quality and capability since then. Now able to be connected to a digital set top box they can display regular television. The better ones can be hooked up to the latest high definition DVD players for picture perfect movie enjoyment. The benefit of a projector is that they are available in much bigger sizes than are currently possible with a television and, when not in use they can they rolled out of sight.

Improved technology can also improve the quality of our nights sleep. A Tempora mattress is made from technology designed by the NASA space programme. Built from memory foam, they mould perfectly to the shape of your body resulting in a deeper state of relaxation. Memory foam mattresses are also particularly effective for those with back problems as they keep the head correctly aligned with the body for better sleeping posture. There can be no better end to a day than collapsing onto a king size, four poster bed complete with memory Foam Mattress covered in Egyptian cotton sheets, a freshly plumped up duvet, all topped off with a luxuriously heavy throw.

Sticking with comfort, but travelling forward a few hours, waking up to the gloriously easy feeling of under-floor heating is something that has to be experienced in order to be truly appreciated. The latest and last word on home heating, under-floor heating is actually much more efficient that regular heating and will free up your walls from the unsightly pipes and radiators that have done our homes a disservice for far too long.

I’ll leave you with a piece of home technology that is still in its novelty stages but is something I feel will have a massive impact on our homes in years to come. Digital picture frames currently offer the opportunity to display snaps of your loved ones taken on your mobile phone or digital camera. They connect to your P.C. where you simply choose from your picture library which shot you would like to upload. The signs are that these small items will eventually grow to the point where they act almost like windows to any view in the world. Soon live scenes from anywhere you like will be able to be beamed straight to your “second window” meaning you will soon be drinking your morning coffee looking over Paris an the Eiffel Tower- better invest in some café style curtains!

Do I need to buy a box spring mattress?

I am looking to buy a 13in memory foam king size mattress! If I make this purchase, do I still need to buy a box spring for it or can it sit on a frame on its own? Also, if I DO need to buy a box spring, does 2 twin size box springs=1 king size?

Memory Foam Mattresses more often than not use foundations not boxsprings.

A steel bed frame by itself will not support a memory foam mattress.

An option may be to buy a platform bed

Put it on plywood (drilling holes will not help if the foam is not a breathable memory foam in the first place)

It can also go on the floor ( hope your your young) :-)

Here is a helpful blog on what boxspring and foundations do.

MEMORY FOAM MATTRESS TOPPERS………?

are they any good first of all?? I have cancer, and chemo makes me ache all over. I now find my previously very comfortable mattress feels very hard. I have the opportunity to get a memory foam topper at a very cheap price…and the lady says it’s 3 inches thick.
What do you think? And also the topper is a king size - I only need a double but wouldn’t get another nearly new at that price quick enough. How difficult would it be to cut it down to size? I don’t mind it being a bit rough round the edges, as it were, as I only need it temporarily.

Any advice will be gratefully recieved, thank you
