Do I need to buy a box spring also when I buy a "Serta 8-inch Queen-size Memory Foam Mattress"?

Im going 2 get a Serta 8-inch Queen-size Memory Foam Mattress and my dad said we also need 2 buy a box spring thing but I was like "no we don’t need 2 buy one" but then he said "yea we do need 2 buy one"
Do we need 2 buy a box spring thingy or Do we just need 2 buy the "Serta 8-inch Queen-size Memory Foam Mattress"?
Please Help!
The bed Im getting it is made out of metal and is a loft bed but I’m putting a thingy under it to hold a queen or full sized bed…heres the link…

I hope that I have caught you before you purchased that frame from overstock.com.
1. Metal frames do require a boxspring (also known as a foundation.)
2. That metal frame does not have a center support, which is required on all queen mattress sets. (if there is no center support you will void your warranty.)

Now if you are just wanting to save money by not buying the boxspring, I would suggest switching to a lower priced boxspring. The serta warranty only requires that the mattress have proper support, and therefore any boxspring they carry, will provide adequate support. If the reason you do not want a boxspring is because of the height you can purchase a lo- profile boxspring. It will be the same price, but they are only about 5 inches tall, instead of the standard 9 inches.

What is the best (and most cost-effective) memory foam topper on the market?

Hey everyone!

Im pretty low on money right now, but i need to buy a new, queen-sized mattress and box spring set. I was thinking i would buy a set that is reasonably cheap - nothing expensive. Then buy a memory-foam topper to balance out the hard mattress.

I figure this will be far less expensive than buying a high-end mattress set which can run into the thousands. Do you guys thinks my plan would work?
Do you think the bed would be comfortable?

How thick should the memory foam topper be to ensure comfort?

Thanks so much for your responses!

Just type in memory foam on ebay.

A good product like that, as I recall is that type of product built for NASA people: Sleep Innovations Memory Foam. Type that in. You’ll get a lot of them.

Look, here’s one of many:

It’s not hard to find. Just do a search, that’s all.

Can I ditch my mattress and just use a memory foam topper or two as a mattress instead?

my bro and I have bunk beds and i sleep on the bottom so I am limited on space. I would love a full memory Foam Mattress but they are expensive. and adding a 3inch topper will give me less room. My question is (because a buddy told me) that i could take a king or queen topper and cut it in half and use it to sleep on.. Assuming i buy a 3-4inch topper, cut in half and stacked would make a 6-8inch layer, which would be more than my current 5inch mattress. and since we have bunk beds i had a solid 3/4inch thick peice of MDF board on the bottom. Or i could just buy two twin toppers and use them. Any thoughts or suggestions.

It won’t be the prettiest mattress but shouldn’t feel too bad. Good luck. Check out the Isotonic Toppers at Bed Bath and Beyond.

Queen size mattress dilemma!!!?

My boyfriend and I are moving in at the end of the week. We bought a bedroom set that includes a queen size bed with foot board, head board and rails. We got a memory Foam Mattress that is 75.0 x 39.0 x 8.0, we are wondering do you have to buy a box spring to put under the the memory foam or does the bed support it already.

Here is the description of the bed:

•Solid wood and wood veneer construction. Tops, fronts, rails, and structural components are solid pine
•Queen beds come with three slats and center supports

Here is a picture of the bed:

On the memory foam beds you do not need a box spring. The whole point of the memory foam is that it replaces the need for springs because springs can be really bad for your body and need to be replaced more than the memory foam bed itself. So to answer your question, no you do not need a box spring, although if youd perfer one to lift your bed up higher then it wouldn’t hurt you to get one but you definately do not need it. Hope that helps! Congrats on the bed, they are awesome beds!

Can I use a FULL sized comforter/sheet set on a queen bed?

I really like this bedding set:
http://www1.macys.com/catalog/product/index.ognc?upc_ID=15714263&ID=428668&Quantity=1&EXTRA_PARAMETER=BAG&PseudoCat=ba-xx-xx-xx.index

But it only comes in a full!

I was planning on buying this bed:
http://www.target.com/Pasadena-Queen-Bed-Black/dp/B002GOK0OY/ref=huc_ic_3_IMG

with this Foam Mattress in queen:
http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=12542632

It won’t fit properly, and you’ll end up tearing the fitted sheet since queens are 6′ wider than a full. Plus, you’ll discover that both the top sheet and the comforter may be a bit on the skimpy side.

What you CAN do, if you are desperate to have this set (!) is to buy a fitted Queen sheet in a coordinating color, then use the full top sheet, cases, and comforter from the set.

Are memory foam mattresses the way to go?

I really need a new mattress and I wanna know if memory foam is the way to go. Its a 10 " memory foam queen mattress. link: http://cgi.ebay.com/10in-QUEEN-MEMORY-FOAM-MATTRESS-TEMPURPEDIC-PILLOW_W0QQitemZ140357443826QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMattresses?hash=item20adf4a0f2 Any other recommendations
I’ve never used one

Ideal would be to go in to various stores in your area where you can feel the different firmness levels offered.

Memory foam does kind of suck you in. It is often described like lying in thick mud.
As far as turning over they can be a little difficult to reposition in, however because of their unique pressure relieving capabilities people don’t move as often. Tossing and turning causes you to be disturbed throughout the night.
Not all memory foam is hot, I would encourage you to do some research for yourself.

Check out Ecomfort Memory Foam Mattresses they sleep cool.

Moving a 12 month old to a ‘big boy bed.’?

What would be the best way to introduce him to his new bed?

All it is, is a Queen sized Foam Mattress on the floor of his new bedroom..

He has to move to a big boy bed as with his cot he keeps getting his legs jammed in the bars and will wake quite a few times through the night screaming as he can’t get them out… Last night it was 5 times.. Bumpers do not work, as he has an obsession with pulling them down, or putting his legs up over them.

Lay in it with him until he falls asleep (or sleep in the bed with him!). So when he wakes up and your not there, he’ll know that it’s ok to sleep in a big boy bed without mum there!

Good luck!

ETA~
You won’t be being ‘dishonest’. You’ll be teaching him he can sleep in a big boy bed without mum there!

Tempurpedic vs Memory foam mattress? Which is better?

I need to get a new queen mattress. Should I spend the money on a tempurpedic or is their a generic brand that sells the same quality for cheaper. I don’t want to buy the name, I want to buy a good mattress. Any suggestions?

The fake ones are of much lesser quality.the foam will break down and fall apart.I bought a Tempurpedic mattress about 15 years ago,and it is the best money I ever spent. You spend a third of your life on it.It is like sleeping on a cloud.Go for the real thing. You will not regret it.Stay away from a pillowtop tempurpedic. It defeats the purpose of the benefits of the mattress.
