Do I need to buy a box spring mattress?

I am looking to buy a 13in memory foam king size mattress! If I make this purchase, do I still need to buy a box spring for it or can it sit on a frame on its own? Also, if I DO need to buy a box spring, does 2 twin size box springs=1 king size?

Memory Foam Mattresses more often than not use foundations not boxsprings.

A steel bed frame by itself will not support a memory foam mattress.

An option may be to buy a platform bed

Put it on plywood (drilling holes will not help if the foam is not a breathable memory foam in the first place)

It can also go on the floor ( hope your your young) :-)

Here is a helpful blog on what boxspring and foundations do.

The mattress does need to sit on something. Whether it is twin box springs or a platform frame.

Need some type of foundation for the mattress- memory foam on slats will just fall through. If you just buy plywood to lay down on the bed frame, make sure and drill lots of holes in it so that the mattress will be able to "breathe" on the underside, otherwise moisture can accumulate and mold the mattress. If you do use plywood, also paint it.
