Memory foam and Latex mattresses: which is better?
my family has to buy a new mattress for my mother, who has back pain. but we dont know what to buy… some people say the memory Foam Mattresses are great for people who has back pain. but some others say that memory foam is too soft and can be bad for thos having back pain. confused, i decided to ask the question here in yahoo answers.
Which kind of mattress is better for those having back pain problems?
Memory foam mattress? Latex mattress? Or other kinds?
And if you have time, please add the differences between memory foam and latex.
Thank you in advance
Purchasing a mattress for someone else is like buying clothes or shoes for him or her without trying them on first.
Not recommended.
The reason you hear pro & cons for both is because they both have pros and cons. This is why test resting is important. A Mattresses feel is subjective to the individual that is going to sleep on it.
Memory Foam is Foam
Latex is Rubber
These are both very high quality mattresses and both can be purchased in an array of soft, medium, and firm variations. Durability and all natural in my book the winner is latex.
As far as what is recommended here is are some interesting blogs on what doctors suggest and pros and cons to memory foam and latex.

Latex foam naturally adjusts to the contours of your body, providing gentle orthopedic support that maintains proper spinal alignment without restricting capillary blood flow
Latex is a naturally derived biodegradable product. It comes from the rubber tree. Latex is hypo-allergenic, and breathes to keep you warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Bacteria, mildew, and mold cannot live in latex foam. Independent tests prove that our latex foam is three times more resistant to dust mites and bacteria than ordinary mattresses. Latex can last up to 30 years.
the foam might be to soft for her and sometimes when your back is really hurting the last thing you want is something too soft. i would go with the latex mattress

I’ve been using a memory-foam mattress topper (4" thick) for over 2 years, and it has been wonderful for my back. After 20+ years of back pain, I solved the problem with this topper. Got it from overstock.com for around $100. If anything happens to this topper, I’ll get another one just like it. It’s like sleeping on a cloud, it adjusts to every contour of my body. No sagging or other problems with it yet.
